The Fishing Trip

David and I went fishing last evening. It had been a while since we had a chance to get out to the lake and we were praying for some big ones. Sure enough, after fishing for an hour, we caught the biggest fish I ever caught. It was about 15 inches long and fat. A beautiful bass. About half an hour later we caught another one just about the same length but not quite as fat.

I was very pleased with our catch.

Of course when we got home I had to clean the fish. We got 4 nice big fillets.

Guess what we had for supper this evening. Yes, FISH!!
We didn't go out on our boat yesterday. Earlier this year I build myself a small paddle boat and David and I have been out on it several times. We actually caught our biggest fish from the shore. So maybe boats are over-rated. That's just from one summer's experience. We've spent more time fishing from shore so maybe that explains it.

It's just a small boat but it works well and the kitties like it, too.

A Visit From Baby Bear

Since we moved to Tomahawk, we have had several visits from bears. At first there were two, a mama and her cub We noticed they would show up after we had a cookout. Recently only the small one has been coming around. For several days we have been trying to attract the bears again so we could photograph them. We did a weiner roast twice and they didn't show up as far as we know. Then Patty put some scraps on a pile in the edge of the woods. This evening I got home from work around 5:30 and I was only in the house for a few minutes when I suddenly glimpsed something black out the patio door. I realized it was a bear and ran for the camera. Patty has used it more and so she started videoing the bear through the window. After it went into the woods she went outside and over to the edge of the woods and got some more pictures and video of the bear eating the scraps. Those were mostly obscured by tree branches and leaves. It was very exciting to be able to capture him on video. Check out the video on our video page.

Are you a 'bears' fan? I am.

The get together yesterday with my parents was very special.  Dad taught us how to prune trees, talked car-repairs with Kenneth, and mom and I visited. David tried to help his kittens to like a big dog more, and we had a nice picnic dinner with roasted wieners, which was partly to draw the bears out of the woods again so we can get pictures of them with our new digital camera.  The camera was a gift from my parents, thank you Dad and Mom!  We have been having regular bear visits since we moved here, and realized after about a month that they usually come after a cookout, for 2 days in a row after, looking and sniffing around, and then leave, looking a little disappointed.  We're glad they don't show up during the cookout!  Last night while roasting wieners right next to the woods, we kept an ear open, just in case. Last week I found out I can still run very fast when one walked out of the woods right up to the open patio door! (the screen was shut)  Whew, sweat.   When he sensed something coming up to the door quickly he went to the garage instead.
I'm hoping to be consistent updating our blog.
It's a happy day here, hope yours is happy too!  :)

Hi Everybody,

Yes, we finally have a digital camera and we finally updated our blog page. Patty got the camera from her parents for her birthday. How excited she is! Her to-do-list for tomorrow is "take pictures".

Fluffy and Oreo checking out the fire pit!

Knock, knock, who's there? It's just me sister!
Fluffy and Oreo at play.

Who's in the driver's seat? He's checking the mileage for his Grandpa.

Who said dogs and cats can't get along?

Any body hungry? We're cooking over the fire on a nice summer evening.

...And a nice table full of other goodies!

I wonder if Fluffy is ready for flying lessons. Here goes!
